Sumner Willsie

Sumner “Russ” Willsie, died peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Scandia, PA., on Saturday morning, January 26, 2019 on his 79th birthday. He was born January 26, 1940 in Red House, Cattaraugus County, New York to the late Sumner H. and Marjorie Remington Willsie.

Russ was a graduate of Randolph Central High School, Randolph, N.Y. Class of 1959. He was a former resident of Frewsburg, N.Y. and in 1966 moved to Warren to marry his sweetheart, Loretta Jackson Willsie on June 25, 1966 in Scandia, PA. He had served with the United States Air Force as a Airman Second Class, serving at Lackland and Sheppart Air Force Bases in Texas. He was employed for 16 years as a caseworker with the Warren Forest Human Services department and was a supervisor of a group home, retiring after several years employment. He was a member of the Warren American Legion Post 135, enjoyed writing poetry, fishing and studying herbal medicine.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta Jackson Willsie of Scandia, PA., 3 Children – Keith P. Willsie and wife, Alicia of Falconer, N.Y., Londa Nidiffer and husband, Scott of Warren, PA., Brian J. Willsie of Mountain Top, PA., 4 Brothers – Phillip Willsie and wife, Mary of Falconer, N.Y., John Willsie of Jamestown, N.Y., Paul Willsie of Randolph, N.Y., Robert Willsie of Louisiana., 2 Grandsons – Liam and Noel Nidiffer of Warren, PA., several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Faith Willsie.

A private funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery with full military honors by the U.S. Air Force.
