Stephen Heller

Stephen R. Heller, 61, of Mentor, passed away January 25, 2018 at his home. He was born November 4, 1956 in Warren, PA.

Dr. Heller worked as a Teacher, Coach and Principal with the Mentor Schools. Stephen also taught adaptive physical education at Perry Schools and was a professor at Lakeland Community College. His hobbies were fishing, hunting and woodworking and he especially enjoyed spending time at his cottage on the Allegheny River. Steve was a member of Weslaco Sportsman’s Club, and an avid outdoorsman. He received his undergraduate degree from Slippery Rock University, and two Master’s Degrees, one from Springfield College, the other from Cleveland State University. Steve also received his PhD from Columbus University. He was a man of strong faith who loved his family fiercely and made an impact on every person he met.

Survivors are his wife, Kerri (Tome) Heller; daughter, Stephanie (Marty) Komertz; son, Michael Heller; mother, Teresa Heller; twin sister, Susan Morse; and his brothers, Gary (Kelly) Heller and Patrick Heller. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Preceding Stephen in death was his son, Aaron Heller; and his father, Richard C. Heller.

Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.

The family will receive friends 39 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Interment will be in Mentor Cemetery, Mentor.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in Stephen’s memory to Camp Sue Osborn, 8090 Broadmoor Road, Mentor, OH 44060 or to the charity of your choice.
