Roger Gourley

Roger Allen Gourley, 74, of Sugar Grove, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Corry Memorial Hospital, Corry, PA. He had spent several weeks prior in the hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 24, 1942 in Sugar Grove, PA, the son of the late Allen and Ellen Springer Gourley.

Roger was raised and educated in the Sugar Grove area and graduated from Youngsville High School in 1960 and played on the basketball team. He really enjoyed attending his class reunions each year.

Roger worked as a sheet metal union worker for Sheet Metal Union Local 12 in Erie, PA., for thirtyfive years and retired from there in 2001. Prior he had served a four year apprenticeship in Jamestown, NY.

He attended the Lottsville United Methodist Church where he enjoyed working the Harvest Dinner each year. He was also a member of the Moose Club in Florida, Sugar Grove Amvets Post #50 and Sugar Grove Fire Department.

Roger enjoyed playing softball in the bistate league and also for the over thirty year old league. He and his wife Barbara bowled in a Friday night couples league for many years. He pitched horseshoes in the Warren County League.

He coached many of his children’s sports over the years. He also coached the Bucket’s women’s softball team for Valley Girl’s League. He enjoyed volunteering at the Warren County Fair where he helped park the RV’s in the campground.

Roger loved camping with family and friends, traveling, golfing, fishing, country music and watching all sports on the T.V. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working in his yard with his wife.

He was a loving, caring, and a true family man. He loved attending his grandson’s sporting events and activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Roger is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Coons Gourley, whom he married on March 14, 1964 in Youngsville, PA; one daughter: Becky (Tim) O’Sullivan of Erie, PA; one son: Tim (Marcia) Gourley of Perry Twp., OH; one sister: Joann (Bob) Jackson of Sugar Grove, PA; four grandsons: Teagan O’Sullivan, Rowan O’Sullivan, Noah Gourley and Adam Gourley; many brother in laws, sisterin laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Family and friends may call at Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, 3 Race Street, Sugar Grove, PA on Wednesday from 5:00 PM 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service there at 11:00 AM. Rev. Sheila Auer, pastor of the church will officiate.

Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Columbus, PA.
