About 1,700 Warren County students went on field trips Monday to learn how to be bucket fillers.

It was not any kind of job training.

The Virginia Repertory Theatre presented the five-person musical ‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today’ twice on Monday at Struthers Library Theatre.

The musical focuses on building self-esteem and confidence, according to SLT Marketing and Education Manager Eric Morelli. “You can either be a bucket-filler or a bucket-dipper.”

A person with a full bucket feels good. A person with an empty bucket feels sad.

Bucket-fillers are those who help others and themselves through positive, thoughtful behavior, according to Virginia Repertory. A bucket-dipper does things that make others feel bad.

“‘Have You Filled a Bucket Today: The Musical’ relays the joys of friendship and compassion for both the receiver and the giver. Help teach students to be bucket-fillers rather than bucket-dippers with this musical performance designed to promote healthy relationships, self-esteem, and character education.”

Morelli said more than 1,700 elementary students from Warren County School District, St. Joseph Catholic School, and home schools attended the event.
