20 from district to compete in World Language Competition

Warren County School District will again be represented at the Slippery Rock World Language Competition at Slippery Rock University.

A group of 20 students from Eisenhower, Sheffield, Youngsville and Warren high schools will travel to the university on Tuesday, Oct. 8, to participate in the competition.

Last year, three students from Warren Area High School were in the top three spots for their competition level against 22 other Pennsylvania schools.

Myah Madril, who placed last year for Spanish 2, will be returning this year at Level 3.

“Whether these students place or not at Tuesday’s competition, it is a big accomplishment that they were selected as the top Spanish learning students from throughout the school district,” said Gladys Archer, Warren Area High School Spanish teacher.

According to Archer, in order to be selected to represent the district in the competition, students must be a top Spanish student in their school of attendance, have the highest yearly average of their Spanish peers, and highest scores in the district-issued Spanish midterms and final exams.

Each school was allowed to select two competitors for each skill level — 1, 2 and 3.

“It is very competitive and such an accomplishment for these students to be representing their schools and district,” said Archer. “We are extremely proud of and excited for them!”

Eisenhower High School competitors include Sydney Cronmiller, level 1; Alex Hummel, level 1; Leah Peterson, level 2; and Jacob Williams, level 2.

Sheffield competitors include Gaven Havle, level 1; Alex Mangione, level 1; Mareena Bailey, level 2; and Abby Gergerson, level 2.

Youngsville competitors include Kenzie Olewine, level 1; Julia Bojaczko, level 1; Maygan Stoddard, level 2; Gabrielle (Ellie) Bojaczko, level 3; and Gage Hendrickson, level 3.

Warren Area High School competitors include Emma Ruhlman, level 1; Brooke Peterson, level 1; Hanna Hoffman, level 2; Ailsa Boger, level 2; Myah Madril, level 3; and Riley Bickling, level 3.
