For the third year in a row, local youth have the opportunity to spend a week learning all about performance arts and putting their new skills to use.

Family Life’s Youtheatre Workshop will take place at the Youngsville Free Methodist Church, 179 Davis St., Youngsville. The five-day performing arts workshop will run from Monday, Aug. 12 to Friday, Aug. 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. The workshop concludes with a musical performance of “Faith News” on Friday at noon. The performance is open to the public.

The workshop is open to children ages 8 to 15. Pastor Rick Hamrick said that in past years he has watched as children who don’t know anything about drama learn and have fun. “The people from Family Life do a great job teaching and make it fun for the kids,” he said.

“This program is more than just a drama camp,” said Robbie Lindmark of Family Life. “It’s a combination of theatre training and spiritual training. Our teachers love what they do and set a great example of what it looks like to be a great artist and a Christian.”

This year, the workshop will culminate with a performance of “Faith News” — a mini-musical production that portrays the importance of trusting God even when life doesn’t make sense.

Set inside the Pearly Gates, two angelic news anchors, Cameron Flowers and Summer Showers, are looking for exciting stories to report. The angels look down on earth to find all kinds of people, like Noah and Moses, who demonstrate great faith in God. Each “news story” shares an account of a real Bible hero and is told through dialogue and song.

Registration for the workshop is $99 for the first child and $85 for each sibling. Youth are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A morning snack will be provided and a post-performance reception will be held after the performance on Friday.

Registration can be done online at fln.org/events or by calling (800) 927-9083.
