Community church service will be held at Struthers

For many of the devout in Warren County, the August 4 community service will not be at their customary locations.

The annual Community Service, hosted by the Warren Area Ministerial Association, will be held starting at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, August 4, at Struthers Library Theatre.

“It is a non-denominational worship where everybody can come together and worship the Lord as one church,” Pastor Bill Hargenrader of First Church of God said. “That’s what we’re called to do.”

According to Hargenrader, one of the founders of the event, anyone is welcome, but there are a number of churches that participate in the event: First Church of God; Faith Fellowship; Warren Wesleyan Church; North Warren Presbyterian Church; Holy Redeemer; St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church; First United Methodist Church; First Presbyterian Church; Warren Alliance; First Lutheran Church; First Church of the Nazarene; Pleasant Community Church; Calvary Baptist; Russell United Methodist Church; Salvation Army; Starbrick Family Church; and Calvary Chapel.

“We’ve had many great speakers over the years,” Hargenrader said. “This year, the speaker will be Rick Snavely of FLN Radio. We’re also going to have the St. Joe’s Children’s Choir.”

“The worship band is typically made up of musicians from different churches,” he said.

There will be a children’s church program for those ages four years to fourth grade.

“Each of the pastors who come will take part in ushering and the greeting,” Hargenrader said.

“We will be taking up a love offering,” he said. “The proceeds of that offering go to the Salvation Army and FLN Radio.”

“It’s a nice service. It’s a very well-attended event,” he said. “We typically run around the 600 number.”

The theater’s capacity is over 900, so there is room to grow. “We’d like to pack it out.”

The community service was started about eight years ago, Hargenrader said.

“It was an idea that came from Jeff Sterling and myself,” he said. “Why can’t we have a service where we all come together and worship?”
