The Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department will hold its 57th Annual Fireman’s Festival the week of August 11 to 17.

Expect some changes, but the goal of family fun remains.

The festival kicks off on Sunday, Aug. 11, with “the” chicken barbecue. The Sheffield Rod ‘N Gun Club chicken crew will prepare the chickens, and the SVFD Auxiliary cooks the rest of the meal. The dinner consists of a half chicken, baked potato, baked beans, macaroni salad, dinner roll, and a cupcake. The cost of each dinner is $10. You must have a ticket — available at Peterson Hardware, Repine’s, and from Melanie McMillen — to receive a dinner. Dinners are at noon and 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, the carnival grounds open at 6 p.m. The midway (American Amusement Rentals returns) will open from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly from Tuesday to Friday and will open earlier on Saturday. Tuesday is also Kids’ Night starting at 6:30 p.m. in which there are added games for the kids to win prizes from sponsors who support this event each year.

On Wednesday and Friday, Aug. 14 and 16, there will be Ride-A-Rama from 6 to 10 p.m. Ride wristbands for this event are at a lower price this night. There will be no Bingo this year during the festival week.
