Monday was Pizza with Police for a group of Beaty-Warren Middle School students.

After a year of good decisions, students in the Life Skills Support class received that reward.

“I told the kids, if their teacher reported back to me that they had a good year, I would throw them a pizza party,” said City of Warren Police Community Service Officer Sgt. Jeff Dougherty.

The report was a positive one and Dougherty, good to his word, went to New York Style Deli — the students’ choice — for pizza for the whole group.

Of course, it was also a learning experience.

Officer Scott Neiswonger and K9 Officer Nic of the Conewango Township Police Department put on a presentation. The students learned about the role of K9 officers and a little about Nic himself.

Each student was also given the opportunity to pat Nic.

“It’s positive reinforcement of their good decisions and their good school work,” said Dougherty.
