Newsies: a Broadway Musical opens tonight. The 15th Annual All-County Musical is based on a Disney film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White.

The local production is directed by Jennifer Check Koebley. This is Koebley’s 11th All-County Musical, having been involved since the first production in 1991.

The idea of the All-County Musical came from her father, John Check. He thought it would be wonderful to showcase the talent Warren County had to offer and come together in a non-competitive way.

The show is based on a true story about the 1899 Newsboys Strike that literally shut down New York City for a time and exposed the appalling working and living conditions of children living there.

The young actors have honed their acting, singing and dancing skills, with lots of New York accents heard as they portray a battle between the haves and have-nots.
