High wind warning for Warren County
Windy weather is coming to Warren.
The National Weather Service out of State College has issued a high wind warning for a large swath of central Pennsylvania, including Warren County, from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon.
“Westerly winds will increase quickly by late Sunday morning in the wake of a cold front, and the potentially damaging wind gusts will continue right through Monday morning,” according to the warning, which describes the forecasted winds as “strong and potentially damaging wind gusts.
Winds are forecast for 20 to 25 miles per hour (mph) with gusts of 50 to 60 mph possible, according to the National Weather Service.
“Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines,” the NWS said. “Scattered power outages are expected.”
Our friends to the north are forecasted to get it a little worse.
The National Weather Service out of Buffalo, N.Y., has issued a similar warning for several New York counties including Cattaraugus, where winds are forecasted at 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 65.
“Strong wind gusts will bring down trees and power lines and result in scattered to numerous power outages,” the advisory notes. “Shallow rooted pines will be particularly vulnerable. Minor property damage is also possible, especially to roofs and siding. Travel in high profile vehicles will be very difficult at times.
“High winds of 58 mph or greater will make driving difficult and could result in property damage, including downed trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Homeowners should secure loose objects.”
PennDOT announced on Friday night that semi-trucks hauling would not be permitted to haul empty trailers on I-90 between the Ohio and New York line due to the wind forecast.
“The restrictions will be in place starting at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 24, with an anticipated ending time of midnight,” PennDOT said.
