And we’re not just talking the event

Better late than never?

Over a month into winter, our first big snow storm is knocking at the door.

And – while we have no idea why — the storm has a name: Winter Storm Harper.

The National Weather Service out of State College issued a winter storm warning at 4:45 a.m. Friday that will be in effect from 1 p.m. Saturday to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The warning indicates that “heavy snow (is) expected” and that “total accumulations of 12 to 15 inches are expected.”

And the warning includes the entire northern tier of Pennsylvania – Warren, McKean, Potter, Elk, Cameron, northern Clinton, Tioga, northern Lycoming, Sullivan, southern Clinton, and southern Lycoming counties.

That means the warning essentially stretched from Warren to Williamsport.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall is expected to start during the day on Saturday, “becoming heavy at times through Saturday night” before tapering off on Sunday morning.

The Weather Channel is forecasting three to five inches during the day Saturday in Warren, and an additional five to eight inches overnight into Sunday.

In addition to snow, the National Weather Service is projecting gusty winds of between 25 to 35 miles per hour (mph) on Sunday that “will cause significant blowing and drifting snow,” making “travel… very difficult to impossible.”

That will bring temperatures “into the single digits Sunday afternoon with dangerous wind chills expected Sunday night into Monday,” the NWS warning indicates.

Temperatures include a high of 27 and low of 11 on Saturday, according to The Weather Channel. Those estimates dive on Sunday to a high of 15 and low of negative-2 – with winds of 16 mph – and a high of nine and a low of negative-7 on Monday.
