Commissioners set Nathaniel J. Schmidt as new Solicitor

Warren County has a new solicitor.

Commissioner Ben Kafferlin said he received a letter from Solicitor John Shreve in early December indicating that Shreve “was looking to take another opportunity” and “didn’t have the bandwidth to serve the county going forward.”

In response, the commissioners, Kafferlin said, put out a request for qualifications (RFQ) and said the only response received was from Nathaniel J. Schmidt.

Shreve’s appointment each of the last two years has been a source of contention among the commissioners for a number of reasons.

The RFQs were opened during a meeting held on Dec. 26. At that time, Kafferlin said that Schmidt has been located in Warren since 2015 and has “worked with many of the offices within the county.”

A proposal including in that RFQ indicated an hourly rate of $150 for Schmidt’s services.

Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said he “wanted to thank” attorney Shreve “for the work he has done. I look forward to working with attorney Schmidt.”

“Welcome aboard,” Commissioner Cindy Morrison said. “It will be a refreshing change and one we’ve needed.”

The appointment was made unanimously.
