City Council approves roundabout

Just like song lyrics from a Billy Preston hit song “it will go ’round in circles.”

Warren City Council approved a roundabout at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Market Street at Monday’s council meeting.

Council failed to move on a motion to maintain and enhance traffic lights and lanes at the intersection.

Following that inaction, a motion to approve the roundabout was approved by a five to one vote. Council member Paul Giannini cast the sole no vote.

The decision will now be sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the planning phase will begin, according to City Manager Nancy Freenock.

Construction on the estimated $1.2 million roundabout is expected to start in 2020, Freenock said.
