United Refining tank fire brings out multiple First Responders

Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry An oil tank fire broke out at the United Refining Company tank farm at 3131 Cobham Park Road shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday. Crews including the United Fire Brigade, Glade, Warren, Pleasant, Scandia, Youngsville, and North Warren were called to the scene.

A Saturday afternoon tank fire at a United Refining Company property in Glade Township brought first responders from around the county to the scene.

The call went out at approximately 3 p.m. for the fire at a URC facility at 3131 Cobham Park Road.

By 4 p.m., thick, black smoke could be seen pouring from the tank.

URC Vice President of Finance Robert Kaemmerer said that there was no damage or threat to the refinery.

“The tank was being cleaned by a third party with URC employees assisting,” he said.

Several United Refining vehicles were observed bringing fire-suppressing foam to the scene on Saturday afternoon.

In addition to the United Refining fire brigade, firefighters from the City of Warren as well as volunteers from Glade, Pleasant, North Warren, Scandia and Youngsville volunteer fire department also responded.

Pennsylvania State Police, EmergyCare and Glade Fire Police also assisted at the scene.

The incident closed Cobham Park Road for a couple hours Saturday afternoon.

No injuries were reported.
