Paving work will close the Hickory Street bridge for most of the day on Thursday.

Department of Public Works Director Mike Holtz said the paving will take place on the “south side of the bridge, just off the approach, in the heart of the intersection of Crescent and St. Clair.

Holtz said the bridge would not be closed until after the morning traffic period, approximately 8:30 a.m.

He said that, if everything goes according to plan, the bridge will be back open by 4 p.m. Thursday.

The work is going to depend on the weather.

“Obviously, if it’s pouring down rain, (we) will move it to Friday,” Holtz said. “Weather permitting, it will be Thursday. There’s some decent holes there on that side of the approach.”

Access from Rt. 6 or from the city’s south side will be limited to the Ludlow St. exit via the city’s west end or the Glade Bridge on the east side.
