Allegheny National Forest motor trails close soon

The Allegheny National Forest’s motorized trail summer season will be closing Sunday, Sept. 30.

But, there will be two opportunities to get out and enjoy some trails between then and the opening of the winter season in December.

During the Tour De Forest, a fundraiser for the Marienville Volunteer Fire Company, ATV/OHN (all-terrain vehicle and off-highway motorcycle) trails in the Marienville Ranger District that will be open to registered participants fro m12:01 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 through 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, include several Forest Service roads and portions of the Penoke Trail.

The Timberline and Marienville trails will be open for visitors to enjoy fall foliage from 8 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, through midnight Sunday, Oct. 14. “As a reminder, visitors should exercise caution, keeping in mind there are hunters in the woods at this time of year,” according to a release from the ANF.

“The winter ATV/OHM trail season should reopen in December if temperatures are cold enough to freeze the ground,” according to the release. “The only trails that may be open for the winter season are Rocky Gap, Timberline, and Marienville.”
