Body found in pond confirmed to be missing Warren County man

The late Sven Blumquist

SHERMAN, NY — A body found late last week in Sherman was that of missing Warren County man Sven Blumquist, the New York State Police confirmed Tuesday.

Police had been waiting to positively identify the 23-year-old, who went missing in the early morning hours of Saturday, July 7, at the Great Blue Heron Music Festival. Dental records confirmed Blumquist, of Conewango Township, was located late Thursday near the Heron grounds after a nearly week-long search.

“Received confirmation this morning (Tuesday) from Erie County NY Chief Medical Examiner Tara Maher that the body recovered from a pond at the Blue Heron Festival location in Sherman, N.Y., was in fact that of Sven D. Blumquist,” said Conewango Township Police Chief Jason Peters. “Due to a backlog of investigations being conducted by Erie County NY Medical Examiner’s office, no further details have been released at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sven’s family and friends.”

A family member of Blumquist confirmed last week that the body of the Warren County native had been located. An obituary for Blumquist that as published in the Times Observer on Monday indicated “accidental drowning,” but authorities have not confirmed a cause of death.
