More priests added as ‘credibly accused’
In keeping with its revised Policy for the Protection of Children, the Diocese of Erie has added names and categories to its list of “credibly accused.”
The people on that list are disqualified from working with children. The original list was released on April 6.
“At the time, the bishop referred to the list as a living document, and said he would release additional names if new information came to light,” according to a Friday release from the diocese’s office of communications.
On Friday, the diocese published an update.
“In revising its Policy for the Protection of Children, including the publication of the list, the Diocese of Erie has provided several avenues for reporting abuse,” according to the release. “The addition of the six new names listed below is the direct result of these steps.”
Names of personnel added to the list who are still living are:
¯ Randolph A. Byrd, former lay school teacher;
¯ Former Fr. Barry M. Hudock, laicized (removed from ministry);
¯ Former Fr. Patrick B. Vallimont, laicized.
The names of three deceased priests were also added to the list:
¯ Fr. Kevin E. Cray, abuse reported after death;
¯ Fr. Fidelis G. Lazar, no longer in ministry at time of report;
¯ Fr. Andrew W. Pawlaczyk, abuse reported after death.
The diocese added a new category to its list — those awaiting trial — and put one name under that heading:
¯ Fr. David Poulson, forbidden to function as a priest.
According to the release, updates will be made at the end of each month as needed and the full list can be found at www.eriercd.org/childreprotection/disclosure.html.
