Helicopter used in search for missing Warren native

By ERIC TICHY etichy@post-journal.com JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The search for a missing Jamestown man continued Friday as Jamestown police, with assistance from the State Police Aviation Unit, searched various sections of the city with a helicopter. The search for 35-year-old Sean Carpenter, who is a Warren native and graduate of Warren Area High School, went into its second week after the city man was last seen in the early morning hours of April 11 reportedly heading toward his home on Superior Street. He has not been seen or heard from since. Capt. Robert Samuelson of the Jamestown Police Department said a state police helicopter was used Friday morning to search areas that were not accessible by foot in the ongoing search for Carpenter. The disappearance has been treated as suspicious. Police were seen searching in the area of First and North Main streets Friday afternoon before moving to the North Main Street bridge. No new information regarding Carpenter’s whereabouts was known late Friday, Samuelson told The Post-Journal. Amy McClellan, a friend of Carpenter, started the Facebook page “Sean Carpenter- Missing Person- Jamestown NY” to post updates on the search, as well as a gofundme page. Carpenter is described as being 6-feet, 2-inches tall and weighing 180 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes, and was last seen wearing a brown baseball hat, green jacket and gray and red sneakers. Anyone with information is asked to call the Jamestown Police Department at (716) 483-7537, or leave an anonymous tip at (716) 483-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent through the department’s 411 cellphone app.
