Union City man jailed on drug charges

A Union City man is in jail on drug charges.

Joseph Eugene Swanson, 40, was placed in the Warren County Jail on $50,000 bail Friday after agents of the Warren County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant on a Spartansburg home Thursday, March 8, the affidavit states.

After investigating a tip that the home may be the location of methamphetamine production, agents found that the resident as well as other associates had made purchases of several pseudoephedrine-containing products.

Swanson, the investigation found, had been one of those associates, with a purchase made on Wednesday, March 7.

Swanson was in the home when agents served the warrant, along with two females and two children, the affidavit states. Approximately seven grams of methamphetamine, numerous plastic baggies, and a digital scale were found in an upstairs bedroom, as well as a bag “belonging to Swanson which contained articles of clothing.”

Swanson was on state parole at the time of arrest, for prior narcotics charges, investigators said.

Also found at the home were a discarded one-pot methamphetamine cook in a burn barrel and stripped batteries used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

“An operational one-pot methamphetamine lab was located in the trunk of the vehicle operated by Swanson that evening,” according to the affidavit.

Swanson is awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for Wednesday, March 14 at 9 a.m., according to online court documents.

He has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver, deposits, stores, disposes of chemical waste and possession of a controlled substance.
