Three lockdown drills set for this week

Warren County schools continue to practice security measures.

The school district has three lockdown drills on schedule for this week.

Youngsville Elementary Middle School’s will be held on Thursday, according to Quality Assurance Supervisor Boyd Freeborough. The time is set for 1 p.m. but could change depending on the availability of district and law enforcement observers.

Both Beaty-Warren Middle School and Eisenhower K-12 will hold drills on Friday. Beaty’s will start at 9 a.m. and Eisenhower’s at 1 p.m.

Freeborough said the district conducts staff training at each school prior to running the drills.

Training is complete at Sheffield K-12 and a drill is tentatively set for 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, he said. Warren Area Elementary Center’s training will be held Monday and a drill will be scheduled thereafter.

Dates will be set for Youngsville High School and Warren County Career Center.

“Our goal is not to frighten our students, but to help them be prepared,” Beaty Principal Shannon Yeager said in an email to parents. “In an attempt to alleviate any anxiety, we will have a school-wide announcement prior to the drill. Students will be educated by their teachers throughout the entirety of the drill.”

“This will be a chance to help staff and students understand the steps recommended and endorsed by ALICE, Standard Response Protocol, and local law enforcement,” Yeager said.
