Event planned to bring public officers together

Confusion and rumors in the wake of a tanker rollover outside Youngsville last month is prompting local officials to improve the flow of public information.

Emergency Management Director Todd Lake told the Warren County Commissioner’s during Monday’s work session that his office is planning an event that will bring the area’s “key players” — industry, health, schools, transportation — together.

The idea is to identify who the public information officer is for each entity, allow those entities to meet each other as well as include some training on the role of the public information officer.

Lake spoke about the importance of knowing “who is speaking for an agency if an event happens.”

Commissioner Ben Kafferlin said they don’t want those people to be meeting for the first time at an incident.

Lake said the session is being planned for June, followed by a tabletop exercise in July as well as a full-scale active shooter drill at Beaty-Warren Middle School in August prior to the start of the school year.
