County RDA chooses new officers

The County RDA changed up its officers at Tuesday morning’s meeting.

Chuck Barone, previous Vice Chair, took over the chairmanship for John Zavinski, who has served two five-year terms in that capacity. Pam Matve accepted the Vice Chair nomination from member Joe Scully. Jamie Steffan accepted the position of secretary vacated by Matve on her switch to Vice Chair.

Five residences on the RDA’s list are moving to judicial sale, which will be held on May 25 at 1 p.m. at the Warren County Courthouse. Those residences are as follows:

¯The Ingersoll Financial No. 44 Land Trust property at 4582 Route 6 in Sheffield Township;

¯The John Bortz Jr. property at 188 Mill Street in Youngsville Borough;

¯The Twila Williams property at 3 Economy Street in Tidioute Borough;

¯The Ken Win LLC property at 114 and 116 West Main Street in Sheffield Township;

¯The Steven and Luann Young property at 61 Second Mill Street in Sheffield Township.While that property is in the process of being purchased, Tax Claim Officer Phil Gilbert said that the taxes remain unpaid on the property and that it is headed to judicial sale in the spring as of now.

A new item on the RDA’s agenda is the property located at 15 1/2 Tan Street in Sheffield Township, which was declared blighted by the Blighted Property Review Committee on Aug. 17 of last year. According to Planning and Zoning Director Dan Glotz, one of the property’s owners has expressed that he has no interest in being involved with the property any longer. The other has said that she wants to make the necessary repairs and retain ownership of it. While the property is not tax delinquent, it does meet several other criteria for conditions of blight, including being an attractive nuisance to children, vacant, without utilities, and a fire hazard, as well as being a potential haven for vermin.

“This has been going through the process since 2016.,” said Matve. “They’ve had enough time. If they don’t come to the February meeting it’s time to go for conservatorship.”

The next RDA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 8 a.m. at the Warren County Courthouse Commissioners’ meeting room.
