‘Plan on difficult travel’

Lake effect snow warning expires today, but accumulation expected to continue

A PennDOT truck bearing a wing and plow decorated by Warren County School District students rolls out of the maintenance office at Starbrick.

While many haven’t yet seen the 15-18 inches of snow that was initially forecast, don’t expect the temperatures to rise.

A lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to the State College office of the National Weather Service.

Officials call for “heavy” lake effect snow and encourage motorists to “plan on difficult travel,” in an advisory released on Tuesday afternoon.

That warning calls for “total snow accumulations of eight to 12 inches, with localized amounts up to 16 inches across the northern and western sections of Warren County.”

“Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times,” the NWS said.

Forecasts indicated another two to four inches of snow to fall during the day Tuesday followed by three to five additional inches – with a low of 14 degrees – overnight into Wednesday.

The forecast for Wednesday calls for a high near 23 and an additional one to two inches of snow accumulation.

Snow remains in the forecast through Friday night though the changes on Thursday and Friday are under 50 percent and no accumulation totals are listed.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-20s until Saturday, when the projected high creeps up to 33 and then to 37 on Sunday.
