Local agencies will collect unused prescription drugs

Part of the haul from a previous Drug Take Back.

Warren County law enforcement agencies will participate in the next National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

The Youngsville Borough Police Department will be open during the event to accept unwanted and unused medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means for disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse and medications,” according to the Drug Enforcement Administration Diversion Control Division.

Medications that sit forgotten in medicine cabinets can be taken accidentally, or taken by someone other than the person for whom they were prescribed.

There are permanent drop-off locations at police agencies in the county — City of Warren Police, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Youngsville Borough Police. When those offices are open, people may bring their unwanted medications in and drop them in the boxes.

Medications should be removed from bottles and placed in zipper bags, according to City of Warren Police Sgt. Brandon Deppen. Liquids may remain in their original packaging. Needles are not accepted.

In addition to its 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours, the City of Warren Police Department will participate with a drug take back at Senior Expo at the Transit Authority of Warren County garage from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 27.
