County’s marketing taskforce holds second meeting

The Warren County Marketing Taskforce, pictured here, recently held its second meeting.

The Warren County Marketing Taskforce recently held its second public meeting at the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industries’ (WCCBI) Office.

The meeting was held to discuss the continuing effort to develop recommendations for the County to improve marketing and promotion of the region.

The first order of business was selecting officers for the group. Chuck Gray, Creative Director of Struthers Library Theatre, was selected as Chairperson of the group and Commissioner Jeff Eggleston was selected as Vice-Chair. Both votes were unanimous.

“Since its first public meeting in August, the Warren County Marketing Taskforce has been moving forward with precision, speed and care,” said Gray. “Working with many county residents, the volunteer Taskforce members have developed a surfeit of strategies and ideas from numerous perspectives that have clear potential to benefit our county.”

During the previous meeting in August, five subcommittees were created in order to focus the efforts of the group. The committees included Centralized Internet Properties and Promotion, Regional Asset Promotion, Warren County Playground, Nest Egg Transplant and Millennial Enticement, and Shape the Narrative. This second meeting focused on reviewing initial reports generated by those subcommittees.

The Internet Properties committee focused on a centralized online event calendar and will be researching software solutions that could support such a project. They’ll also research funds and systems to help organize and promote the calendar. A second focus for the committee is internet promotion and a third, wayfinding tools for locals and tourists. Both items are being researched by the group.

The Regional Assets Promotion sub-group started outlining several focal points including identifying main areas to develop and market (including a single leader), development of the Kinzua Beach area and others to further encourage tourism, and the development of a floating stage or amphitheater in the region.

The Warren County Playground group discussed and started researching plans to support and grow infrastructure for large events; the creation of a large-scale festival that incorporates all of Warren County’s features with music, art, and outdoor activities; develop a support system to grow and promote the events that already take place in Warren County.

The Nest Egg Transplant and Millennial Enticement subcommittee focused on identifying target demographics, contests or incentives that can attract interest from those groups, the idea for an “Educational Incubator”, as well as concepts for incentivized relocation.

The Shape the Narrative group is researching and developing plans for campaigns and messaging that are meant to elevate moral locally and draw attention to positive elements within the community.

Commissioner Eggleston said he was very pleased with the meeting and the progress the group had made.

“I am so impressed with the work everyone has done to this point,” he said. “My hope for this group was that the membership would take the reins and guide it into new directions, and that’s exactly what’s happened. These ideas are fresh and the best part is, they’re local. I’m excited to see the finish product at the beginning of next year.”

The next public Marketing Taskforce meeting will be at the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry offices on Wednesday, October 25 at 7:00 pm.
