Students to see schedule, teacher, principal changes at Beaty Middle School

After nearly three full weeks of school, Warren County School District administrators have decided it’s necessary to change things around a bit at Beaty.

That includes class times — and possibly even teachers — for some middle school students due to an overlapping and/or gaps in current scheduled classes.

This coincides with the appointment of a new principal at Beaty, with the recommendation going before school board members as early as Monday.

“The current principal of Beaty, Ms. Ann Ryan, will be taking a new position in the district,” Warren County Superintendent Amy Stewart said on Friday. “Mr. Shannon Yeager is being recommended to complete the 2017-18 school year as the building principal. Mrs. (Maryann) Mead will remain at Beaty as the assistant principal. Mr. Yeager has been with the district since 1999 and started his teaching career at Beaty. He has worked as an assistant principal and principal for 11 years and is very excited about meeting all of the students and staff next week.”

Yeager has been principal at Eisenhower Elementary School, and Brian Reynolds has been recommended to replace Yeager at Eisenhower.

“Overall, we have been pleased with the start of school, but there are some changes to the schedule that have to be made, mainly with class times,” said Stewart. “The students have been attending classes and receiving grades for their work. The teachers have been instructing and assessing students appropriately, while we have been working on the changes that need to take place. Teachers will be instructed as to how to save and move grades so that no student progress is lost.

“We are going to make this transition as quickly and as efficiently as possible while taking the time necessary to make sure it best meets the needs of the students and staff,” said Stewart. “The majority of the changes will be related to the times that courses are offered, although there are going to be some circumstances that dictate a teacher change.

“We are communicating with the staff, and when it is time to make the changes, we will do everything we can to make it as smooth as possible,” she said. “If you anticipate that your child may have difficulty with the transition, please contact the school at 723-5200. Mr. Yeager will be communicating with you regularly going forward, and he will be letting you know when the schedule change is going to occur.”

Stewart, as well as district administrators Eric Mineweaser and Gary Weber, pointed out that, while these changes are rare after school begins, they aren’t unprecedented in the district. In the past state mandates due to “Adequate Yearly Progress” prompted changes in class times/scheduling and teachers.

Mead, Beaty Warren Middle School’s Assistant Principal, sent a letter home with students this week:

“… The Beaty Warren Middle School faculty and administration came together to analyze the master schedule and create a more unified model that will be consistent and beneficial for our students,” she wrote. “In the next few weeks, your child may experience some minor scheduling changes to the times of his or her classes, as well as a possible teacher change pending his or her grade level.”

Stewart said on Friday, once changes are made, teachers will have to create new assessments for students in some cases, but the students or their prior grades should not be effected.
