Food program for veterans coming to Warren
A new program bringing food to veterans in need is coming to Warren.
“In northwest Pennsylvania, one in four households receiving food assistance has at least one household member who has served in the military,” according to Zachary Webb of Second Harvest Food Bank. “Military Share, a Produce Express Program of the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, is designed to provide fresh, nutritious foods for families with at least one member who has served or is serving in the armed forces or National Guard.”
“Second Harvest is incredibly grateful for the sacrifices made by those who serve in the military,” Second Harvest Executive Director Karen Seggi said. “We are proud to provide food assistance to our neighbors who are involved in the military.”
Food will be distributed to eligible veterans starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Warren County Community Based Outpatient Clinic on Farm Colony Drive. Veterans and military families are asked to register by calling 800-274-8387 x. 2780.
Veterans with questions may also contact the Warren County Veterans Affairs Department at 728-3478.
“Each eligible, registered family will receive: fresh produce, one quart of fresh milk, one dozen eggs, cheese, and a box of shelf-stable pantry staples such as soup, pasta, sauce, and cereal,” Webb said. “When available, meat, fish, and poultry products will also be included.”
