Grill on back porch cause of Wednesday fire in Youngsville

The cause of a fire on Bates Street in Youngsville has been determined.

According to Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department Chief Vern Edminsten, the fire that broke out around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, was started by a grill on the back porch.

Edminsten said that, in addition to Youngsville, crews from Starbrick, Pleasant, Garland, Sugar Grove, Spring Creek, and Wrightsville assisted at the scene.

Other than the close proximity of neighboring homes to the residence, Edminsten said there were no other particular dangers involved in the fire.

While residents of the home were inside when the fire broke out, Edminsten said they were able to get themselves out and no rescue efforts were needed.

There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians during the course of the fire, Edminsten said, and the scene was cleared around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. While the house itself was destroyed by the fire, Edminsten said only light damage was sustained by neighboring homes.

In addition to fire crews, the Red Cross was called to assist the family.
