Delays begin early in Rt. 62 bridge project

The Hunter Station Bridge project is still months from starting, but the delays associated with it could begin right away.

The $23.7 million replacement project on the Route 62 bridge over the Allegheny River in Forest County is set to begin in September and end in March, 2018.

According to PennDOT, lane restrictions and short delays could be coming soon.

“Traffic delays to allow the safe unloading of steel beams for the project are expected to begin as early as this week,” PennDOT District 1 Press Officer Jim Carroll said. “Delays could require brief, intermittent traffic stoppages lasting approximately 15 minutes at a time.”

“Lane restrictions will also be required at times during daylight work hours, with traffic to be controlled by flaggers,” he said.

The new bridge will be located slightly upstream from the existing structure.

There will be a detour when the work begins.

Motorists will take routes 36, 208, and 157 for about one month starting in early- to mid-September.
