“You didn’t show much gratitude to those who’ve offered you employment” ~ Judge Morgan

A Frewsburg man will serve a third term in state prison after he was sentenced for burglary in Warren County court Tuesday.

Randy Houghwot, 35, was sentenced to a term of 16 to 48 months at a state correctional facility, restitution of $758.56, $375 in fees, drug and alcohol treatment, and no contact with the victim for burglary from a former employer.

Senior Judge William Morgan credited Houghwot with 30 days of time served and said he will be eligible for boot camp.

Attorney Elizabeth Feronti, representing Houghwot, asked for a sentence at the low end of the standard range despite his “extensive” prior record because “he has been successful on supervision” including having no misconducts during his time served for the offense at Warren County jail.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” Houghwot said. “I do have a drug problem (but) I haven’t used drugs in a year and a half.”

The prior record score was a main consideration for the prosecution in asking for a state prison sentence and in Morgan’s decision.

“You have not learned from all these prior offenses” including two stretches in state prison, he said. “You didn’t show much gratitude to those who’ve offered you employment.”
