Kasaback announces bid for district judge
John M. Kasaback of Sheffield has announced his candidacy for Magisterial District Judge 37-2-01, covering the City of Warren, Sheffield Township and Cherry Grove Township.
Kasaback is a native of Sheffield, graduating from Sheffield High School in 1978. He is currently a Sheffield resident. After graduating from Sheffield High, Kasaback continued his education, receiving a B.A. in political science from Washington and Jefferson College in1982 and a J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1985.
Kasaback said he has been practicing as a criminal trial attorney for over 25 years in the Pittsburgh and Johnstown areas.
Kasaback said he has focused on all major felony cases, including a full acquittal on a death penalty case in Cambria County in 1994, and has worked several homicide trials.
According to Kasaback, he has practiced before over 100 District Justices and is uniquely familiar with the operation of the Magistrates offices. He personally knows several District Justices in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Further, as a practicing criminal trial lawyer, he claims to have full knowledge of all the Rules of Criminal and Civil Procedures and the Rules of Evidence.
Kasaback also has experience running a small office in the legal business from being in the private practice and running his own office as a sole practitioner.
“This is my dream job,” Kasaback said. “I was the youngest on-call Arbitration Hearing Chairman, at the age of 29, judging arbitration cases in Allegheny County. I may have the most experience of all the current candidates.”
Kasaback is currently single, with two children. He was lastly employed by Jones Chevrolet in Warren as a sales consultant.
“As District Judge, I would like to see a special Drug Court established, requiring first or second time drug offenders to receive mandatory inpatient treatment to help them beat their addiction and become productive members of the county,” Kasaback said. “Further, a special court for veterans would be helpful given the unique issues facing veterans.”
