Huffman announces candidacy for School Board – Region 1

Amy Huffman

Amy “Elizabeth” Huffman is officially announcing her candidacy for Warren County School Board – Region 1. Elizabeth is a 1992 graduate of Warren Area High School. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Masters in Business Administration with a Concentration in Management and Leadership, both from Methodist University. Elizabeth has worked in the financial industry for 21 years as a pension consultant and currently serves as a manager at Retirement Plan Solutions, Inc.

Elizabeth promises to be an energetic and passionate leader, who will focus on evaluating county expenses, conserving the taxpayer dollars as well as high school reform. The latter objective is aimed at equipping students with a comprehensive curriculum and trade programming to be highly competitive in their endeavor for post-secondary education and future career opportunities.

“This initiative will not only benefit our students but also our community, yet will take time and energy to implement with integrity” said Huffman.

She goes on to quote President Dwight D. Eisenhower, “Accomplishment will prove to be a journey, not a destination.” She said she recognizes that this is true of a school board in that progress takes time and patience, as well as solid leadership, to occur.

“I applaud and recognize the effort that the current board has done,” she said. “However, I feel strongly that there is more that we can do to improve educational opportunities in the district while decreasing the financial impact felt by the taxpayers.”

In addition to her financial background, Elizabeth has non-profit board experience. She served on the Fayetteville Children’s Museum Board of Directors in Fayetteville, N.C., from 2012-2014, where she acted as chairman until she relocated her family back to Warren County. Additionally, while her husband served as First Sergeant in the U.S. Army, Elizabeth was the chairman and led the Family Readiness Group through multiple deployments. From these experiences, Elizabeth said she has grown to be extremely skilled at working well with a diverse group of individuals in tough situations. With little fanfare, she said she accomplishes the mission at hand, usually going well above and beyond the scope of the task.

Elizabeth promises to be a valuable asset to the community because of her prior board experience, past community involvement, and her desire to see the children in our county receive an excellent public education. She said her proven leadership abilities and financial knowledge will be advantageous to the district as it continues to face decisions that affect our children’s future and the spending of taxpayers’ money.

Elizabeth quotes Colin Powell, “a dream doesn’t become a reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.”

If elected, Elizabeth promises to be dedicated and determined to be a part of helping to actualize the dream of an improved educational system for all the children of Warren County.

Elizabeth has been married to her husband Wayne for 16 years and they have three children; Tyler (junior at UNC), Alex (12) and David (10).
