Survey says?

Streetscape work starts here

The City of Warren is sizing up to be ready for the competition.

On Monday, a crew from Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. Engineering and Construction out of North East, formerly Hill Engineering, was surveying the intersection of Market Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Surveying is one step along the path to creating a plan for the next phase of the ongoing Streetscape project.

The survey work captures locations and elevations, allowing the city to put together a detailed plan.

“They’re getting everything on a piece of paper… widths, sidewalks, trees, catch basins,” Public Works Director Mike Holtz said. “We’re surveying that whole block from Liberty to Market.”

There is funding available for projects of this sort, but the people in charge of the purse strings like to see detail.

“Once we get a Streetscape project put together, we’ll look for sources of funding,” Holtz said. “In order for us to get serious about finding monies, they want to see projects that are shovel-ready.”

While the city wants to be ready, there is no set timeline for the next phase of the project.
