Strong Vincent girls coach fired for incident at Warren game, keeps teaching position

The visiting coach who charged into the stands to confront a fan at a Warren Area High School girls basketball game has been relieved of his coaching duties, but retains his teaching job.

According to reports from the Erie Times-News, Paul Przepierski, former Strong Vincent High School girls basketball head coach, lost the coaching position he had held since 2011 as a result of the Monday, Jan. 16, incident.

Przepierski was suspended with pay from both his coaching role and his physical education and health teaching job at JoAnna Connell School, starting the day after the game. He retains his teaching position.

Officials from the Erie School District investigated the incident, according to the Times News report, and determined that the fan made “derogatory” remarks toward Strong Vincent players, according to Erie School District Director of Athletics John Dahlstrand. He said Przepierski’s action was inappropriate.

“We teach our students that there are consequences to their behavior, and we all have to answer for consequences when we make certain decisions,” Dahlstrand said.

Przepierski’s compensation for coaching was $8,700, according to the Times News., with his teacher’s salary retained at over $71,000.

Video of the incident provided to the Times Observer is posted on the Times Observer’s Facebook page.
