Policy, precedent in place in district for fan discipline

There is precedent and policy in Warren County School District for excluding individuals from attending sporting events.

District administrators cited policy on disruptive spectators when asked if a fan could be kept out of events, but did not offer comment on any individual fan.

“If the behavior of a spectator causes a severe disruption at a game, the district can prohibit them from attending future events,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said.

Stewart did not comment regarding a fan involved in a Monday night altercation with a visiting basketball coach. The district has not released the identity of the fan nor whether any action has been taken against him.

Stewart has said the district is investigating the situation.

District 10 also has a policy regarding the behavior of fans at sporting events:

“District 10 and its member schools encourage and promote sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. Profanity, racial or ethnic comments, or other intimidating action directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches, or game management will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from any game.”

The coach involved in the Monday incident, Paul Przepierski, Strong Vincent High School varsity girls basketball head coach, has been suspended with pay pending the result of an investigation into the incident, according to Erie City School District.

Przepierski left the bench area, climbed into the bleachers, and physically accosted a fan during a basketball game at Warren Area High School.

Video provided to the Times Observer shows the altercation, but not in sufficient detail to make out the fan involved.

There have been no criminal charges filed against Przepierski and State Police have said they are not investigating the incident.
