Youngsville has been selected as an Independent We Stand “Americas Main Streets” contestant. The second round of voting begins Monday, May 2 at 10 a.m.; If we can get all of our friends and they get some of their friends to vote every day from now until May 31 we just might win $25,000 to be used for community improvement. You don’t have to live here or be from here to vote. To make it easier, put the link below in your favorites. One minute of your time could sure help us reach the goal. If Youngsville is chosen to be in the top 25, we get the most votes we will win the $25,000. The Youngsville page is www.mainstreetcontest.com/nominees. You may vote once a day to help Youngsville enter a Main Street contest. The funds will help with the Main Street Project.

Camp Halo

Needs Donations

Camp Halo began in 1999 with 20 children “camping out” in a backyard for a weekend. Since then, we have grown to five weeks of camp, averaging 140 children per week, so that 700 children are able to attend. Camp Halo provides a week of camp, free of charge, to under-privileged children ages 6 to 15 from the southern Erie and Warren County area. The camp is a safe-haven for many of these children, over 75 percent of who have experience some form of abuse in their home environment. Camp Halo provides campers with three nutritious meals a day (plus snacks), school supplies, school clothes, hygiene products, Bibles, and quilts.

During their stay at camp, these children not only enjoy activities such as swimming, hiking, sports, crafts, and horseback riding, but they also learn valuable life skills. Among other things, campers are taught about basic cooking, cleaning skills and proper hygiene – much needed skills for the kids to take care of themselves in their home life.

At present, the summer camp is funded by private donations. With the current economic instability in our region and increasing costs, our donors have not been able to keep up with our growth. Therefore we are seeking funding through new means. The funds will go towards purchasing food, clothing, shoes, hygiene products and toiletries, first aid and lice kits, kitchen supplies, paper products and cleaning supplies, bedding, and school supplies.

With your help, Camp Halo can continue to be serving underprivileged children in the community. Doorkeepers Christian Outreach is a 501(c) 3 non-profit and donations are tax-deductible. If you or your organization is interested by supplying items or financially help, contact Diana Payne at 563-4849.

Our end goal is to raise $75,000 and we have currently made it to just about $30,000. We would love to have you partner with us on this project and we are thankful for those who already have.

A Call to Prayer for our Nation

There is a movement happening across the country on April 9 to pray for the nation. There will be a large gathering in California as well as in Washington, D.C. Tens of thousands of people are joining their voices and praying for our nation.

Joining the many voices on April 9, Community churches are gathering at Otterbein UM Church at 2 p.m. with Bishop Peter Siakama, local pastors, and the rest of the local church to pray.

Bishop Peter will bring a word of encouragement; he knows firsthand the supernatural power of prayer for a nation. He has experienced praying corporately for his own nation and would like to share his hope for our nation as well.

Please plan to come pray with us but whether you are able to join the group or not please set aside time on April 9th and the days leading up to it to pray for our nation!

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
