The Hometown Heroes

Project Road Trip

The Hometown Heroes Project is meant to pay tribute to our servicemen and women both past and present by hanging individual photo banners on area streetlights and utility poles.

Youngsville is starting the project, but the hope is to have the whole county participate. Warren has expressed interest in participating. Information has been supplied to Sugar Grove and Tidioute.

We are planning a “road trip” to Emporium on Tuesday, April 5 to view first-hand a completed Hometown Heroes Project. The plan is to carpool from Holmberg’s Salon starting at 9:30 a.m. Nancy H. said that she will drive. She has room for 6 or 7. If more are interested, we will take as many cars as needed. It should take a little under 2 hours to get there. We should have time to do a driving tour of their Hometown Hero’s banners before meeting with representatives from their Banner Committee at the Aroma Cafe at the corner of 4th and Chestnut streets. There we can review how Emporium approached the project.

This information should make our efforts easier and help us avoid pitfalls. Call 563-4286 if you want to go. Next meeting will be held on April 11 at the Youngsville Borough Building.

Today he is a bishop presiding over 33 churches in Kenya. He is experienced in praying corporately for his own nation and would like to share his hope for our nation as well.

Announcing Understanding Whitetail Deer Workshop

Penn State Extension will be holding an Understanding Whitetail Deer workshop at their office in Youngsville on March 30, 2016 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM. The workshop is free to attend but pre-registration is required due to limited seating. The deadline to register is March 28.

Whitetail deer are the most popular game animal in Pennsylvania. Managing the herd is a complicated process that involves not only understanding whitetail biology but also their habitat requirements. This workshop will provide information about both.

Duane Diefenbach’s presentation will focus on female deer: when they’re bred, how they survive, and when they give birth. His talk will be directly related to his ongoing deer-forest research taking place on state forest lands in Pennsylvania. The results of this research will help Pennsylvania’s forest and game managers better understand how deer affect forests so they can make better management decisions.

Scott Weikert from Penn State Extension will give a presentation centered around deer habitat and how you can create habitat on your property for a healthy herd.

The Warren County Extension office is located at 100 Dillon Drive, Youngsville, PA 16371.Participants can register online by going to the following website: extension.psu.edu/natural-resources/wildlife/events/understanding-whitetail-deer or by calling the Penn State Extension in Warren County at 814-563-9388.

The purpose of this program is to teach the use of consistent milking practices that emphasize teat cleanliness, udder stimulation and rapid milk flow while performing the most important job on the farm. Milking consistency affects cow well-being, mastitis risks and milk output. Participants will learn about the importance of early detection of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis and proper treatment protocols. After completion of this program, participants will have the essential tools to produce high quality milk on their farm. This in turn, will increase income through increased milk production, increase premium benefits and decreased cost of treatment.
