Bingo at Buccardo’s

Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament committee members will be holding Bingo at Buccardo’s restaurant on Sunday, May 1.

Doors open at noon and the games begin at 1 p.m.

There will be cash prizes and several door prizes.

Yard Sales

Tidioute Borough residents are invited to host a yard sale on Saturday, May 14

There is no charge for set up and you have it at your place.

If you would like your sale location listed on the list, contact the borough office at 484-7424 and the office personnel will add your sale location to the list.

Conservation Day

Friday, May 20 has been set for Conservation Day and the students from Tidioute Community Charter School will be out and about the borough planting fresh flowers and fixing up the planters.

Anyone who would like to make a monetary donation for the flowers can do so at the borough office.

Through your monetary support this program of planting flowers can continue on and help to beautify our community.

Calling All Bingo

Players

A bingo bus trip will be traveling to Salamanca to Seneca Gaming and Entertaining for a day of bingo on Sunday, May 15.

There will be many games to play and chances to win cash.

The bus will depart from Northwest Bank parking lot in Tidioute at 9 a.m. and will return around 6 p.m. There will also be a stop the Warren Mall to make a pick up around 9:30 a.m.

Bus tickets are $20 which is non-refundable and includes an incentive package.

Reservations and payment must be received by April 29. You must be age 18 or over to attend.

If you have any questions, call Marci at 706-3213 or Crystal at 730-2437. Do not contact these ladies at their place of employment as this trip has nothing to do with their borough jobs.

Program on Falls

Chris Darling of Darling’s Home Care along with Deanna Beyer, a physical therapist, and Katie Courson, a registered nurse, were at the Tidioute Senior Center on April19 to explain the programs they have to offer in their 24-hour skilled nursing care.

The ladies tested everyone for balance and range of reach, bending and sitting and raising, with or without dizziness.

A lunch of pizza, salad and beverages was provided by Darling’s.

Raft Races

This year the Raft Races will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m.

The race starts behind the Wildwood and will end at the Tidioute Boat Launch.

Come early to set up your raft.

There is a $5 entry fee per person.

The theme this year is, “Wild Wild West”. Be sure to decorate according to the theme to be entered in the “Most Spectacular” Category.

Prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the race at the boat launch.

Sidewalk Grants

Tidioute Borough has been awarded $42,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds.

These funds can replace your existing deteriorated sidewalk, or install a new one if there isn’t one by your home at no cost to you.

To qualify for grant assistance you must be the property owner (no rentals or land contracts), live in a single-family dwelling, and your home may not be actively for sale.

Your household total income must fall within the following guidelines:

* one person, $33,150;

* two people, $37,850;

* three people, $42,600;

* four people, $47,300;

* five people, $51,100;

* six people $54,900;

* seven people, $58,700;

* eight people, $62,450

If you believe you qualify for these funds, pick up a application at the Tidioute Borough office. Then contact Lori Dunlap at the Warren County Planning Office at 728-3516 to set up an appointment for approval of the application. Applications will be available during regular borough office hours Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. till 3:30 p.m.

TCCS Prom

The Tidioute Prom Committee will be holding a prom on Saturday, May 7, for students in grades 9 through 12.

Prom committee members have planned a sit-down dinner for the students and three hours of dancing.

They would like to give away door prizes during the prom, but they need your help.

Here are a few examples of what they need that would be helpful: pop (cubes or 2 liters), snacks and gift certificates for items or food, movie basket, a summer basket or monetary donations.

If you would like to donate something, call the school at 484-3550 ext. 102 to arrange for pickup.

Spring Clean Schedule

May 7 will be clean up for Triumph Township from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Watson Township will also have clean up on May 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Limestone Township will hold spring clean up on Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. you will need proof of residency.

Tidioute Borough will hold spring clean up on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. noon.

Gun Raffle

VFW Post 8803 is holding a gun raffle on a Marlin 1894 lever action 44 mag.

Drawing will be on June 20.

Donation of $2 each and tickets can be gotten at the bar or from any of the members.

5K Trail Run

Wesley Woods will be hosting a 5K Train run on Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m.

Registration will be at 10 a.m.

A pre-race meeting that you must attend will be held at 9:50 and the race starts promptly at 10 a.m.

Proceeds from this race will help fix up the trail and help with camp.

Wesley Woods summer camp is for those ages 4 to 18 years.

It is located near Grand Valley.

Trip to Nashville, TN

Once again Judy has put a great trip together for Oct. 13-16.

Music City welcomes Tidioute church group to Nashville, TN where your group can experience first-hand why Nashville is so popular.

Tidioute Knights of Columbus members are selling PA Lottery Calendars for $25 each.

The drawings are based on the PA daily Pick 3 evening drawing.

You have 365 chances to win, one drawing per day for the entire year, plus you have a calendar to keep track of important dates.

On Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m. there will be a Spring meeting of the lot owners and Swedish Union Cemetery Association members.

Ambulance Memberships

Tidioute Area Ambulance Service is holding their annual Ambulance Membership Drive.

A membership for the family is $40, senior citizens is $35 and seasonal memberships are $55.

Bucktails Meeting

Tidioute Bucktails will hold a meeting on Wednesday, April 20 at the club house on McCauley Hill at 7 p.m.

Boondocks Antiques and More will open on Friday, April 15 at 10 a.m.

This is a consignment store if Antiques, Collectibles and much more.

The store is located at 140 Main St, Tidioute, PA.

Bingo Trip

Bingo players traveling to Salamanca on Saturday, April 16, are reminded if you haven’t paid your $20 yet, you need to get it to Crystal or Marci ASAP.

The bus will leave the Northwest Savings Bank at 9 a.m. and return approximately 6 p.m.

There are still five (5) seats left if anyone still would like to go.

Parade Theme

The Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament theme for the parade being held on Saturday, September 24, 2016 is “Dr. Suess”

There is plenty of ideas with this type of theme and lots of time to put a float together.

The children as well as the adults always enjoy the beautiful floats that grace this parade. So put on your thinking caps and create a beautiful float.

Entry is free and you can always have so much fun creating these masterpieces.

Card Shower

The family of Bill Brown is hosting a Birthday Card shower for his 95th birthday on Wednesday, April 13.

Watson Township Cleanup

Watson Township Supervisors will hold a Spring Clean up for the residents and campers of Watson Township on Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. till 2 p.m.

Cost is $5 per vehicle load.

They will not accept any batteries, solvents, hazardous material or propane tanks.

Tires will be accepted for a fee of $2.50 for each passenger size tire, and $5 for each tire over 35 inches.

Townwide Yard Sales

Tidioute residents will be able to participate in a Townwide Yard Sale set for Saturday, May 14.

5K Trail Run

Wesley Woods is sponsoring and 5K Trail Run on Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m.

Registration is at 8 a.m., a pre-race (you must attend) at 9:50 a.m. and the race starts at 10 a.m. sharp.

Online Payments

SWCMA and Tidioute Borough are now accepting payments on line for your water, sewer and garbage bills.

All you need is your bill, a credit/debit card. As the customer you ill be charged the fees to do this.

The payments are done through Municipay. If you want more information please contact the borough office at 484-7424 and the staff will assist you.

Borough Cleanup

Tidioute borough residents will be able to ride out their basements, garages and leftover yard sale items on Saturday, May 21 when the borough holds their annual Spring Clean Up.

Time is 9 a.m. till noon at the borough garage at the intersection of Grant Street and Tidioute Creek Road.

Cost is $5 per car load and $10 per pickup load.

They will not accept any paint, tires or batteries.

Triumph Township Cleanup

Triumph township supervisors has announced that the Spring Clean for Triumph Township will be Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to p.m.

Cost will be $10 per vehicle load.

PA Lottery Calendars

Members of the Tidioute Knights of Columbus are now selling the new PA Lottery Calendars.

Cost is only $25 each with an opportunity to win 365 days as the calendar numbers are based on PA Lottery, evening drawing of the 3 digit numbers.

Contact any members of the Knights of Columbus or stop by St John Center prior to or right after Mass to select your calendars.

The calendars are good for one full year.

Borough Council

Tidioute borough met on Monday evening with the main issue being the restricted parking on Jefferson St between 25 Jefferson St and the intersection of Jefferson ST and McGuire St. from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Members of the community were at the meeting to discuss the no parking signs, there was representation from the Tidioute Community Charter School. This will be taken to their board meeting and a solution to the parking problem will be discussed.

The signs were put in place due to property owners not being able to access their driveways during school hours. and during the winter months, snowplowing was next to impossible due to cars being parked long that stretch of roadway and the snow piling up. The other issue was a safety issue with emergency vehicles trying to get through.

The concerns of those attending this meeting were duly noted and addressed in great length.

Minutes of the March meeting were approved as presented. Treasurers report was accepted as presented and permission was granted to pay the bill for March 2016.

Mayor Pam McLaughlin reported for the Chief of Police in his absence. Chief Deeter is working on grants for much needed equipment for the police department and the fire department.

Chief Deeter responded to approximately 12 issues.

Borough manager Tim Carll reported on the activities of the maintenance department. His crew has been busy fixing the street lights and replacing the bad ones. Also, working on the boat launch and floating dock and getting ready for spring/summer. They also managed to get the streets swept before the antiskid got to packed on the street, The streets look very nice and clean.

WWII committee members met once already and will meet again on April 27 at 7 p.m. at the borough office. The reenactment is set for Saturday, September 3, 2016.

A motion was made and approved to the updates to the Tidioute borough Personnel Policy. Copy was given to each member of council last month.

Dates approved for Townwide Yard Sale day set for May 14 and Clean up day as May 21.

Approval was granted to hire Terry Beck, she was a previous employee, and she will work temporally in the office helping out during Crystals absence.

Permission was granted for Crystal to apply for a Transportation Fund grant for Campbell Hill Road/retaining wall, McCauley Hill Road, King Street and municipal parking lot.

Permission was granted to sell the 2005 Ford F150 pickup. Bids will be accepted with a reserve amount of $1500 minimum bid. Bids will be accepted until Friday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the borough office, 129 Main St, Tidioute, and will be opened at that time.

Borough Complaints

Be it known that if you have any complaints or concerns about borough issues, please do not call the place of employment of our council members and do not stop at their place of employment to issue your complaints. The council members are only volunteers and do not need there jobs interrupted with borough issues.

Please bring your issues to the borough office or to the council meetings where they can be properly addressed.

EMT’s Needed

Tidioute Area Volunteer fire department and ambulance service is in need of more EMT’s (Emergency Medical Technicians).

Anyone who is interested in becoming an EMT should contact Chris Morgan at 688-1501 or Shawn Silvis at 730-2389. They will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the classes. If enough people sign up for the class, a class could be held here in Tidioute at our own firehall

At this time there are only two certified EMT’s answering the calls and we have two EMR’s (Emergency Responders).

Call one of these fire department personnel for more information.

Second Harvest

The next Second Harvest for Tidioute will be on Saturday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at the Tidioute Firehall.

Bring two boxes or laundry baskets as boxes are limited.

Dollar Dinner

Tidioute United Methodist Church will host a Dollar Dinner on Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. at the Methodist Church.

This is truly a dollar dinner, you only pay $1 for your dinner.

Tidioute Community Charter School will be hosting a Blood Drive on Thursday, April 7 from noon till 4 p.m. at the Charter School.

There is no charge for donation your blood and there is a urgent need of all types of blood, so please consider stopping by the Charter School and donating a pint of blood on Thursday. Perhaps you will be able to save a life and make a difference in someone else’s life.

Time needed is approximately 30 minutes and your out and on your way.

Tidioute Knights of Columbus will hold their regular monthly meeting at St John Center on Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend.

Four teams of ten people are needed to ride the donkeys, so please consider signing up to play.

If you attended the event last year, then you know how much fun it is to participate in and watch this event.

Concession stands will be open one hour prior to the event, so come and join them for dinner and a laughter filled evening.

There will be free Donkey rides for children age 12 and under.

Advanced tickets are on sale at Buccardo’s Restaurant, Evans Market and Tidioute Trading Post.

Cost is $6 each for advanced sales, $8 at the Gate and children age 3 and under are free.

Parade Theme Winners

The tally for the Pennsylvania State Championship Fishing Tournament parade theme choice is in.

First Place is Dr. Seuss with 3,083 votes; Second Place is Wild Wild West with 1,878; Third Place is Alice in Wonderland with 943 votes; Fourth Place is Under the Sea with 585 votes and in Fifth Place was Jungle with 409 votes.

So there you have it, “Dr. Seuss’ will be the theme for the 2016 parade set for Saturday, September 24th.

The Fishing Tournament Committee appreciates the participation of the community in helping them pick the theme and if you have any suggestions to be included in next years contest, please contact them and let them know.

Residents and campers in Watson Township will have an opportunity to clean out garages, out buildings and closets for the Saturday, May 7 Spring Clean Up with drop off at the township building.

There will be a charge of $5 per vehicle load and they will not accept batteries, solvents, hazardous materials or propane tanks.

Tires will be collected with a fee of $2.50 per each passenger tire and $5 per tire over 35 inches and a higher fee for larger size tires.

Hours will be from8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

TownWide Yard Sales

Tidioute borough will be holding their Townwide Yard Sales on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. till ???

Tidioute Borough Clean-Up

Spring clean up for Tidioute borough residents and seasonal residents will be on Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. till noon at the borough garage.

Cost will be $5 per car load and $10 for a pick up truck load.

Please no paint, tires or batteries.

5 K Trail Run

On Saturday, May 14 there will be a 5K Trail Run at Wesley Woods.

Registration is at 8 a.m.

Pre-race (you must attend) meeting at 9:50 and the race starts at 10 a.m.

Be sure to come and enter, a great time is guaranteed for everyone and the event is for a great cause.

Soup Cool Off Winners

Sunday, April 3 was the 12th Annual Tippy Canoe Bigfoot Souper Bowl. With 31 entries this year there were plenty of varieties of soups, salad, desserts and rolls.

Participants came from Edinburg, Hillsville, New Castle, Indiana, Ellwood City, Kane, West Hickory, Union Township, West Middlesex and Tidioute.

Judges were John McCracken, Allen Hall and Skip Weilacher.

Overall winner of the Potato Soup category was Julie McAdams of Indiana, PA. Second Place was Buster Stonebreaker of West Middlesex.

Winner of the Traditional Soups was Missy Ruth of West Hickory with her Wedding Soup and Linda Scott of Tidioute won Honorable Mention with her Ham and Bean Soup.

During this event a total of $146.75 was collected for the Tidioute Unit of the Salvation Army and the money will be kept here in Tidioute to help those in need.

Frank and Roxanne would like to thank everyone who made soup for this event, those who came to support the event, sampling the soup and their staff for all there hard work.

Pierogi Sales Successful

Fran O’Hosky of St John Church Pierogi Sales chairperson would like to thank everyone who purchased the Pierogi to support the cause and a big thank you to those who donated items for the making of the Pierogi as well as those who helped make them each week.
