Sugar Grove Book Club

The Sugar Grove Library Book Club will be meeting on Monday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. This month’s read is “Canada: A People’s History” by Don Gillman. Stop by the library and pick up a copy and join the book club.

The Lottsville Loop will once again be holding its 8K race and 1.5-mile fun walk on Saturday, Sept. 10 starting at 9:30 a.m. This is in conjunction with the Lottsville Heritage Days Celebration. All proceeds will benefit the Wrightsville and Bear Lake volunteer fire departments.

The cost is $25. Registration begins on race day at 8:15 a.m. at the Lottsville United Methodist Church. The course starts and ends at the Lottsville church on the Lottsville Niobe Road. The 8K loop is a scenic mostly flat course with a few rolling hills on blacktop and dirt roads. The course crosses over two water bridges and one railroad bridge with rural views.

Freedom Walk 2016

The Sugar Grove Community will once again participate in the nationwide America Supports You Freedom Walk on Sunday, Sept.11 to remember 9-11 victims and honor military past and present who protect American’s freedom.

The 2016 America Supports You Freedom Walk is sponsored by the AMVETS (American Veterans) and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. The community will gather in the Sugar Grove Town Park at 4 p.m. The walk will begin in the park and travel through the streets of Sugar Grove then end in the park. The total route is less than two miles. The quiet walk travels through town behind the AMVETS color guard.

This event each year marks the anniversary of the tragic events at the Pentagon, the twin towers in New York City, and Shanksville, Pa. The purpose of the America Supports You Freedom Walk is to establish a national tradition to reflect on the lives lost on September 11, renew our commitment to freedom and the values of our country and to honor our veterans, past and present. Mark your calendar and plan to join the community event this year.

Food Pantry

The Sugar Grove Food Pantry is currently open Tuesday evenings during the month for those in need of supplies. The facility is located at 210 Jamestown St. in the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church and opens at 6 p.m.

Last weekend the Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry distributed food to more than 120 local families from the Sugar Grove Free Methodist gymnasium. Thank you to all those volunteers who make this event possible every other month.

Family Fun Night

A Family Fun night is being planned at Mission Covenant Church (corner of Jackson Run and Matthews Run roads) on Wednesday, Aug. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a bounce house, carnival games, active games, face painting, free food, etc. Join us for the fun.

Unity Music Festival

Saturday, Aug. 6 the first Unity Music Festival was held at the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church.

The event featured Christian Rock bands and local Acoustic Artists who provided great inspiring music from 1 to 10:30 p.m. on both the indoor and outdoor stage areas.

Thank you to all who worked so hard to bring this event to the area. The bouncy house, food vendors, face painting, activities for children and even the weather was amazing. Eisenhower Class of 1973 will be having a breakfast tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 13 at the Bucket Cafe starting at 9:30 a.m. Those wishing to join that class event are welcome to attend.

Cemetery Association

Meeting

The Wesleyan Cemetery Association will be holding a meeting to discuss information concerning the cemetery. All plot holders are welcome to attend the meeting. It will be Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Sugar Grove American Legion Home at 6:30 p.m.
