Cruise In- Tonight

The 20th Annual Sugar Grove Cruise In will be held Friday, May 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. The entry fee is $5 per vehicle which will go to benefit the Sugar Grove Food Pantry. The host of this year’s event is the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church. Major sponsors of this year’s Cruise In are The Bucket Cafe, D&L Enos Milling, Harley Davidson of Jamestown, Ed Schults of Warren, Warren Midtown Motors, The Outpost, Brian Horner Inc., Lawson Brothers, Wilcox Brothers, Jones Chevrolet, Jeff McKinney Auto, and KC Auto Glass. The first 100 cars or motorcycles entered will receive a dash plaque. Cars can enter at the Sugar Grove Fire Hall. The Sugar Grove Fire Department will host a chicken barbecue, and other vendors will be on hand. The fun will start at 4 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. rain or shine. Come on down to the Sugar Grove Borough and follow the crowds, the music, and the fun to the Cruise In. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for this event, call 489-3105.

Truck Load

of Groceries Raffle

On Friday, May 22, at the Sugar Grove Cruise night, the Eisenhower Bandtastic Boosters will be on sight selling raffle tickets for their Truckload of Groceries Raffle. Tickets will be available for purchase at a price of $2/ticket or three tickets /$5. Stop by the display to view the groceries and purchase a ticket(s). If you miss it Friday night, stop and see us during the chicken barbeque on Saturday, May 23, at the Russell Fire Hall. The proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Eisenhower Marching Knights 2015/2016 season.

Memorial Day

Event

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, the Sugar Grove Community is invited to come together to honor our service men and women. Our AMVETS Post #50 and American Legion Post #758 will hold this joint service in the Sugar Grove Town Park beginning at 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the Memorial Day Service will be the Annual AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary “Ducks for Bucks” race being held on the Main Street AMVETS Memorial Bridge.

WCSD Schedule

Reminder there will be no classes on Monday, May 25, for students in the Warren County School District in observance of Memorial Day. The last day of school will be Wednesday, June 10.

Color Run at EMHS

The second annual EHS Student Council Color Run is happening on June 6 at 11 a.m. The cost is $20 if registered by May 29 and $25 if registering after that date. The first 100 applicants are guaranteed a T-shirt and an individual color packet. Come and join us and run through the beautiful EHS Eco-Lab and get blasted with color along the way. Registration forms are available in the Eisenhower High School office or you can obtain one from Mrs. Smith. 200th Anniversary

The Community of Lottsville will celebrate its 200th anniversary on Sept. 12 at the Freehold Township grounds in Lottsville. The Heritage Day Committee is looking for interested vendors/craftsman to take part in the festivities. Interested parties should contact Ruth DeVore at 489-3408 or Don Martin at 489-3262 to get scheduled before June 1.

Community Lunches

The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches. The Mission Covenant Lunches are on their summer break and will resume on the first Friday of the month in September. On the second Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race Street and Jamestown Street in the center of town. And on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.

The Sugar Grove Library has just posted new hours for the community. The library will be open Monday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. 7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. 5 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. 6 p.m. Watch the news for advertised movie nights and special events that may have the library open at other times. Stop in and see what is happening at your local library.

Registration is now open at the Imaginative Preschool of the Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church for the 2015-16 school year. The preschool has been in operation for more than 25 years and is a wonderful way to start off any child’s education. Ike Pride Golf

Scramble

On Saturday, May 30, the Ike Pride group from EMHS will hold a Golf Scramble at Cable Hollow Golf Course. The event will begin at 8 a.m. The golfing event will be held as a scramble with a shotgun start. Teams will be charged $240. This fee will include 18 holes of golf for four people, two carts, and food at the turn, full meal at awards ceremony and prizes associated with play. There will be four divisions General, Students, Senior’s (65 and older) and Women’s provided five teams are registered in each division. Prizes for each division will be as follows; first prize $240 and second prize $120. Student division prizes are $180 for first prize and $90 for second prize. A silent auction will be held during the scramble with winners being announced at the awards ceremony to be held at approximately 12:30 p.m. Food for non golfers will be sold to those attending the Awards Ceremony with reservations. For reservations or questions on the event, call Todd Venman at 757-5850.

Various sponsors will be needed for this event. Event Sponsors: Each of these sponsors will be given recognition in the event program and mentioned during the event gathering at the conclusion of the scramble. If companies have advertising banners or materials we would be glad to display those during the event. There will be Gold Level Sponsorship- Indicates a $250 donation has been placed. Silver Level Sponsorship- Indicates a $150 donation has been placed. Bronze Level Sponsorship- Indicates a $100 donation has been placed hole sponsors: Each hole can be sponsored for a donation of $50. These Sponsors will be given 8.5×11 sign recognition on the hole they will be sponsoring. Scramble Contest Sponsor: Sponsors will be needed to donate prizes for various contests during the scramble. Mulligan’s can be purchased for $10 a team. Each player will receive one. Chinese Auction items can also be donated. Registration is now open for the State Certified Sugar Grove Free Methodist Church Summer Day Camp held at 210 Jamestown Street, Sugar Grove, PA 16350. The facility is open Monday through Friday, 6:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning on Thursday, June 11, and running through Friday, Aug. 21. Assistance to defray the daily fees of the Summer Day Camp Program is available through the Subsidized Child Day Care Program of Pennsylvania and is now available from New York. At the assembly all recognitions, honors, scholarships, and awards will be presented to outstanding seniors in various academic, vocational, and athletic areas. At the Mission Covenant Church on Jackson Run Road they will having a Spring Fling Bake and Creative Treasures Sale on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. Come and celebrate Spring. There will be baked goods, special treats, snack items as well as creative items to give as gifts to others for purchase. All sales will support the Children and Youth Ministries of the Mission Covenant Church. Stop on over to see all there is to purchase. Use the basement entrance for easy access to the event.

Library Book Club

The Sugar Grove Library Club has chosen their novel for the month of May; it is Whiskey and Charlie by Annabel Smith. It is the story of a set of twin boys growing up, how they drift apart and the accident that brings them back together again. The reviews are terrific. We look forward to meeting and talking about this book May 18.

Chandlers Valley

Community Center

The Chandlers Valley Community Center Spaghetti Dinner planned for May 17 has been canceled. The center holds their monthly meetings on the fourth Monday of each month and anyone is welcome to attend. New members are welcome to come and bring their new ideas and questions. The Sons of AMVETS Post 50 in Sugar Grove will be holding their Annual Mother’s Day Breakfast Buffet on Sunday May 10 from 8 to 11 a.m.

200th Anniversary

The Community of Lottsville will celebrate its 200th anniversary on Sept. 12 at the Freehold Township grounds in Lottsville. The Heritage Day Committee is looking for interested vendors/craftsman to take part in the festivities. Interested parties should contact Ruth DeVore 489-3408 or Don Martin 489-3262 to get scheduled before June 1.

Love Inc. of Brokenstraw Valley will hold its 4th Annual Golf Scramble on May 9 at Cable Hollow Golf Course. To register your team, call 563-3394. For more information, contact the office. Book Club

The Sugar Grove Library Club has chosen its novel for May. It is “Whiskey and Charlie” by Annabel Smith. It is the story of a set of twin boys growing up, how they drift apart and the accident that brings them back together again. The reviews are terrific. We look forward to meeting and talking about this book May 18.

SG Township

Clean-Up Day

Clean-up day for Sugar Grove Township residents will be on Saturday, May 9. Garbage can be dropped off from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the parking lot at the township building. This is for Sugar Grove Township residents only. The cost is $5 per load.

No Clean-Up Day

There will not be a Clean-Up day for the Sugar Grove Borough residents this year, but there will be one scheduled for next year.

Community Lunches

The Community Lunches in the area continue to be well attended. All lunches begin at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend any or all of the area Community lunches.

Each month lunch is held on the first Friday of the month at the Mission Covenant Church at the corner of Matthews Run and Jackson Run roads. On the second Thursday of each month at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church located at the corner of Race and Jamestown streets in the center of town. And on the third Wednesday of the month at Hessel Valley Lutheran Church in Chandlers Valley. Everyone is invited to attend.

New Library Hours

Sugar Grove Library has just posted new hours for the community. The library will be open Monday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. 7 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. 5 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. 6 p.m. Stop in and see what is happening at your local library.

Ike Pride Golf Scramble

On Saturday, May 30 the Ike Pride group from EMHS will be holding a golf scramble at Cable Hollow Golf Course. The event will begin at 8 a.m. The golfing event will be held as a scramble with a shotgun start. Teams will be charged $240. This fee will include 18 holes of golf for four people, two carts, and food at the turn, full meal at awards ceremony and prizes associated with play.

There will be four divisions: General, Students, Seniors (65 and older) and Women provided five teams are registered in each division. A Chinese auction will be held during the scramble with winners being announced at the awards ceremony to be held at approximately 12:30 p.m. Food for non golfers will be sold to those attending the awards ceremony with reservations. For reservations or questions on the event, contact Todd Venman at 757-5850.

Chandlers Valley

Community Center

May 17 the Chandlers Valley Community Center will be holding a spaghetti dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Dinner will be spaghetti with meatballs, break sticks, salad, dessert and beverage.

The Chandlers Valley Community Center holds its monthly meetings on the fourth Monday of each month and anyone is welcome to attend. New members are welcome to come and bring their new ideas and questions. The center is located at 9250 Jackson Run Road in Chandlers Valley and is open for all occasion rentals.

EMHS Scholarship

Awards Ceremony

Friday, June 5 at 2 p.m. the Eisenhower High School will hold its Annual Scholarship Senior Awards Assembly. At the assembly all recognitions, honors, scholarships, and awards will be presented to outstanding seniors in various academic, vocational, and athletic areas. All colleges, organizations, and award presenters should provide information on winners to the EMHS office by May 23.

Concert Tomorrow

The Flock, a Christian musical group from Sugar Grove, will be opening for the Good Little Giants at the Praise Fellowship Church. The concert will be on Saturday, May 2 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Come on out and join the fun as the Good Little Giants from Rochester, N.Y., kick off their summer tour that includes a trip to the Creation Music Festival in June.

Concert in the Valley

The Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church will be holding a concert on May 6. Dan Schall from Zelienople, Pa., will be in concert at the church located on Jackson Run Road in Chandlers Valley. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. All are welcome to come and enjoy the ministry and songs by Dan.

Book Club

The Sugar Grove Free Library April Book Club will be meeting on April 27. We have a historical fiction by Sue Monk Kidd entitled “The Invention of Wings”.

The “wings” is a reference to slaves’ wings to heaven and the story is based upon the true story of Sarah and Angelina Grimke, two sisters who were pioneers in abolition and rights of women set in Charleston.

Get a copy and join us April 27 for the next Sugar Grove Library Book Club meeting.

Various sponsors will be needed for this event. Event Sponsors: Each of these sponsors will be given recognition in the event program and mentioned during the event gathering at the conclusion of the scramble. If companies have advertising banners or materials we would be glad to display those during the event. There will be Gold Level Sponsorship- Indicates a $250 donation has been placed. Silver Level Sponsorship- Indicates a $150 donation has been placed. Bronze Level Sponsorship- Indicates a $100 donation has been placed Hole Sponsors: Each hole can be sponsored for a donation of $50.00. These sponsors will be given 8.5×11 sign recognition on the hole they will be sponsoring. Scramble Contest Sponsor: Sponsors will be needed to donate prizes for various contests during the scramble. Mulligan’s can be purchased for $10 a team. Each player will receive one. Chinese Auction items can also be donated. There will be a Chicken BBQ dinner will be provided for participants which can also be purchased by non golfers with reservations.
