Sheffield VFW Post 8755 Memorial Day Services
At 9 a.m. Monday, May 28, at Memorial Field, the Sheffield VFW Post 8755 will host the Memorial Day Services. Introductory remarks will be led by Commander Ray Biego, Invocation will be read by Stacy Shaffer, the National Anthem will be performed by the Sheffield Area High School Band under the direction of Sarah Korchak.
The flag raising will be done by the VFW Color Guard assisted by Boy Scout Troop No 35.
Commander Ray Biego will begin the Pledge of Allegiance and also will introduce the guests.
Memorial Address will be given by Retired United States Air Force member Michael Miller.
Stephanie Lindberg the Ladies Auxiliary President will give out the Ladies Auxiliary Awards to the following individuals: Mya Grubbs, granddaugther of Betty Studer. Mya will be attending Lockhaven University; Cale Albaugh, great-grandson of Lillian Zevotek. Cale wil be attending Clarion University; Eliza Davidson, granddaughter of Aileen Davidson. Eliza will be attending Pennsylvania College of Technology; Lindsey Goldthwaite, great-granddaughter of Lillian Zevotek. Lindsey will be attending the University of Buffalo; Hunter Zurek, grandson of Judy Bennett. Hunter will be attending Slippery Rock University.
Lori Elmquist of the VFW Post 8755 will hand out the scholarship awards from the Post 8755 to Eliza Davidson, granddaughter of Raymond Davidson. Eliza will be attending Pennsylvania College of Technology; and the awards for the winners of the essay contest — 1st Place is Justin Eckstrom, 2nd Place is Calyn Copley and 3rd Place is Aggie Fadale.
The Roll Call of Deceased Veterans will be read by Lori with the assistance of the Girl Scouts. This year’s veterans who have passed away are as follows: Dean Walters of the U.S. Army, Bob Hoden of the U.S. Navy, Jerry Lindsey of the U.S. Army, Don Donafrio, U.S. Navy, William Brown of the U.S. Army, and William Hanson of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Salute to the colors and taps performed by the VFW Color Guard and commanded by Ken Ekstrom. Stacy Shaffer will have the Benediction and concluding remarks will be given by Ray Biego, Commander.
21st Annual Sheffield Rotary Golf Scramble
On Saturday, June 9, the Sheffield Rotary Club is hosting a golf scramble at Blueberry Golf Course. Start time is 1 p.m. and the cost is $65 for non-members at Blueberry and $40 for members. Cost includes green fees, cart, prizes, and a steak dinner after play. No handicap is needed as we will be using the Peoria Handicap system. All profits go towards needy projects in Sheffield, some come on out and have some fun and help the Rotary Club do need projects to improve Sheffield.
Last year, profits went to help pay for the new sidewalk at the new food pantry. If you don’t want to play, but you want to sponsor a hole that would be greatly appreciated as well. There is still time to be a hole sponsor, just contact Jim Borst or Jim McMillen at the above numbers.
National Train Day at Sheffield Depot
We wish to thank everyone who helped make our third Train Day a success. It may have rained that day but it did not dampen spirits. Thanks to all the folks that helped make this day possible; the Depot Board of Directors, Pit Stop, Save-A-Lot and Tops Markets. A special thank you to the Warren County Historical Society for its support and advertising. See you during the Johnny Appleseed Festival the weekend of October 12-14th and next year for Train Day.

Sheffield Days June 8 and 9
The town-wide garage and lawn sales will be Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9.
Celebration of her Life for Trish Vukovich
On June 16, from 1 to 6 p.m., at the Sheffield Lions Den, there will be a Celebration of the life of Trish Vukovich. All family and friends are welcome there will be beer, water, coffee and some food will be available. Come and share memories of our beloved Trish.
Spring Clean Up Day
Saturday, June 16, will be the annual Sheffield Township Clean Up Day at the Sheffield High School back parking lot from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $5 per carload, $15/$20 per pickup truck load, $5 for each appliance, and $1 for each battery.
TV’s and computers will be accepted at price to be determined by the size and weight of each item. But we will be taking old TV’s and computers. Residents will be allowed to bring items difficult to haul away for disposal at a certified landfill. Items such as old furniture, appliance, mattresses, water heaters, barrels, etc., are allowed aslong as the item can be hand-dumped by the residents. No hydraulic truck bed dumping is permitted. If possible, please restrict the use of trailers. Areas will be set up to take scrap metal and general items. The residents are asked to cooperate with the people at the site, ensuring efficient sorting. Freon must be removed from refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers and humidifiers and show a “Freon free certificate.” No tires, garbage, lawn or garden trimmings or paint or hazardous materials will be accepted.
