Warren County Spelling Bee
The Warren County Spelling Bee begins at 9 a.m. Thursday at Beaty-Warren Middle School and will feature champion spellers in grades five through eight from throughout the district. The Bee was pushed back a day due to the weather cancellation of school on Wednesday.
If there is a two-hour delay in starting school on Thursday, the Bee will take place at 1 p.m.
Class to breakfast
The Warren Area High School class of 1969 will meet for breakfast on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m. at Perkins in Warren.
On Sunday, Feb. 11, the Allegheny Outdoor Club (AOC) will hike or ski at Allegany State Park in Cattaraugus County, New York. Participants will meet at the Warming Hut at the Summit Area at 2 p.m. For more information call Greg Burkett at (814) 723-4989.
On Wednesday, Feb. 21, the AOC will hike or ski on the West Overland Trail near Panama, New York. Participants will meet at the Panama Diner at 10 a.m. For more information call Pat Spicer at (814) 757-8331, evenings.
Visit the Warren Public Library on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m. and do something wacky in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. There will be Seuss-themed stories, songs, games, prizes, crafts and snacks. Be a wack-a-doodle and wear a wacky hat, two different shoes, or your shirt backwards…whatever wacky nonsense you can come up with. Preregistration is appreciated by not mandatory. Registration form is located next to staff computer in the Children’s Department or leave a message for Children’s staff at 723-4650. This event is in correlation to our Dr. Seuss Poetry Contest. Russell United Methodist Church, on Main Street in Russell, is ladling up its First Annual Soup Cook-Off Fundraiser and Bazaar from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, to benefit the RUMC Ministry Center.
The cost of $5 includes soup tasting, voting for Best Soup, and shopping LuLaRoe and Agnes & Dora clothing, Mary Kay and Younique cosmetics, Paparazzi Jewelry, Identity Engravers and more.
Plus, at 5 p.m., enjoy a full bowl of your favorite soup. This event is sure to heat up a cold winter’s day with friendly competition, blending in unique shopping and scooping up lots of fun.
The Tuesday, Feb. 13 Valentine Luncheon of Christian Women’s Club will meet from noon to 2 p.m. at the Allegheny Community Center, Clark St., Warren. Pastor Buddy Ward of North Warren Presbyterian Church will be the spiritual speaker, featured guest will be Tammy Shephard, a missionary who visited Haiti, and Richard Geer is the musical guest. New visitors are welcome, as well as men. There are no dues or membership. A $9 fee covers lunch and the program.
Fire services meeting
The Warren County Fire Services meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 8, in Lander. Dinner will be at 7 p.m. with the meeting to follow.
40 Cans for Lent
The “40 Cans for Lent” (Food For Families) program will be held again this year and sponsored by St. Luke Knights of Columbus. Participants are asked to bring one can of food for each of the 40 days of Lent to benefit Youngsville Ministerial Food Pantry. They invite other area churches or individuals to participate.
