100 Books Before Christmas

Children ages two to seven are encouraged to read — or be read to –100 titles by December 16. Record titles on a sheet provided by the Library. Turn your child’s sheet in to the Warren Public Library Children’s Department by 5 p.m., Dec. 16, and your child’s name will be placed in a random drawing for a Pete the Cat Plush Pack. Two winners will each receive a 10-inch plush Pete the Cat plus seven paperback Pete the Cat books by James Dean; winners will be notified December 18. This task can easily be done if you read to your child every day. Titles are to be recorded on the “100 Books Before Christmas” sheet, which is available on the semi-circle in the Children’s Department or download one from Children’s Events at www.warrenlibrary.org.

Santa at the library

Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa and Mrs. Claus are stopping by the Warren Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 9, from noon until 1:30 p.m. in the Slater Room on the third floor. Mrs. Claus will read holiday stories and Santa will join the festivities to sing a song and visit with the children. Children will also enjoy holiday snacks and crafts. Preregistration is mandatory as attendance is limited to 40 children. Registration sheet is located next to the staff computer in the Children’s Department, or phone 723-4650 to leave a message for the Children’s Librarian.

10 Chapter Books Before Christmas

Children ages eight to 16 are encouraged to read/list 10 chapter books or nonfiction books about any topic they please. Choose your favorite and write a few sentences about why you like it. Record titles on a sheet provided by the library; this sheet is due to the Children’s Department by 5 p.m., Dec. 16. Participants will have their name placed in a random drawing; two winners will each receive a $35 Amazon gift card and will be notified December 18. Titles are to be recorded on the “10 Chapter Books Before Christmas” sheet, which is available on the semi-circle in the Children’s Department or download one from Children’s Events at www.warrenlibrary.org.

Monday Night Movies

Monday Night Movies at the Warren Public Library will continue on November 20. This event is free of charge and begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Slater Room on the third floor of the library. Complimentary popcorn will be available. This week’s PG-13 rated 99 minute film stars Gabriel Chavarria, Theo Rossi, Demi’n Bichir, Eva Longoria, and Melissa Benoist This drama is set against the vibrant backdrop of East LA’s iconic car culture. Danny, a talented young street artist, is caught between the lowrider community inhabited by his old-school father and step-mother and following in the dangerous path of his ex-con brother. Call the library at 723-4650 for the exact title of this and other movies in this series as the library’s movie license does not permit listing the titles of movies outside the library.

Clarification

“Warren County School District schools will be keeping it green again this year,” according to an article on page 2 of Monday’s Times Observer.

For the second year, schools in the district will be participating in the Trex Challenge. Schools will be collecting plastic from Nov. 15 (America Recycles Day) April 22 (Earth Day), competing for the prize — a bench made from recycled plastic from Trex and ownership of the trophy that went into rotation last year.”

Eisenhower Middle/High;

Eisenhower Elementary;

Sheffield Middle/High;

Sheffield Elementary;

Warren Area High School;

Warren Area Elementary;

Beaty Middle School;

Youngsville High School, and;

Youngsville Middle/Elementary.

Each school in our district competed against each other as well as against all schools across the nation and four of those schools placed in the top 10 in the state.
