Grand Valley man held on rape charge

A Grand Valley man is facing charges he sexually assaulted a girl over a period of three years when she was 12 to 14 years old.

Thomas John Cox, 57, of Grand Valley, is charged with rape – forcible compulsion; involuntary deviate sexual intercourse – person less than 16 years old; and aggravated indecent assault – person less than 16 years old.

According to documents filed Tuesday by Pennsylvania State Police, the girl, who is now 15, reported that Cox began touching her inappropriately when she was in fourth and fifth grades.

Police said she described an escalating sequence of assaults from January of 2010 through July of 2013.

She told police there were between 10 and 20 different incidents.

He was arraigned Wednesday morning before District Justice Art Zerbe. Cox was held for court and bail was set at $25,000. Zerbe also told Cox that he was not to have any contact with the victim, nor have anyone else contact the victim on his behalf.

A preliminary hearing was set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24.
