AMVETS awards Warren County students at 74th annual Williamsport convention

American Veterans (AMVETS) held its 74th Department of Pennsylvania Convention in Williamsport, PA at the end of June.

AMVETS conducts an Americanism program and AADAA (AMVETS Against Drugs and Alcohol Abuse) program.

For 2018-2019, Karen Lindell, an elementary teacher assisted AMVETS Post 50 with the Americanism program at Eisenhower Elementary School.

This years theme for the Americanism program was, “Why should you say ‘Thank You to a Veteran?'”

“No use for Drug Abuse” was the theme for the AADAA Programs.

1st Place entries from all over the commonwealth are submitted to the Department Americanism Committee for judging.

Attending the awards program to receive their awards were:

Molly Jackson of Sugar Grove, PA; 3rd place Kindergarten winner; Brigit Cook of Russell; 3rd place 5th grade winner.

Other AMVETS Post 50 winners were:

Brady O’Donnell, an 8th grader at Sheffield M/S High School who received 3rd place in Americanism and 3rd place in AADAA, and Carter O’Donnell, an eleventh grader at Sheffield M/S High School who received 2nd place in Americanism and 3rd place in AADAA.

AMVETS Post #50 brought home the “Most Patriotic AMVETS Post” award due to the many hours of members volunteering for Veterans, Community, Children and Hospital in the Area. Receiving the Award was AMVETS Post 50 Commander Adam Yurchisin.
