Halls of Ivy

Renee Taylor, a junior nursing student from Youngsville, was named to the Dean’s List for the fall semester at The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. Dean’s list status is awarded to students who have earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Sunshine Week

The League of Women Voters of Warren County would like to invite you to its 3rd Annual Sunshine Week Celebration at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Department of Public Safety (Rouse Annex Building) located at 100 Dillon Drive, Youngsville (last building on Rouse Avenue). Guests are asked to meet at the visitors’ entrance.

What is being celebrated with this event? The Freedom of Information, Openness in Government, and Sunshine Laws.

Join the event for a tour of the facilities and a question & answer session with the speakers and guests.

Speakers and invited guests to include representatives from the Emergency Management/911 Center, Sheriff, and District Attorney.

Transplant support

The Close to the Heart Transplant Support Group will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Jefferson Room of the Warren Public Library. We will discuss strange cravings that recipients notice, supposedly related to their donor.

Understanding Alzheimer’s

An Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia Workshop will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the Higher Ed Council Office on Warren State Hospital Grounds. The workshop is presented by Jill Curtis, BSW, Education and Outreach Coordinator with the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter, Erie.

It is free, but registration through the Hi-Ed Office is appreciated. Call 723-3222 to register.

Caregivers’ Support Group meeting

The Caregivers’ Support Group will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Winger Room, 501 PA Ave. E., Warren. All caregivers and any other interested persons are welcome to attend. These meetings are open to the public. Topics of discussion vary but may include personal care issues, behaviors, respite care, types of dementia, and educational opportunities provided in this area by representatives of the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter from Erie. There is always time for sharing concerns and asking specific questions. The Support Group library will be available for those wishing to borrow books. Attendees are asked to enter the church via the PA Ave. entrance. Bring your own beverage or snack.

Quilters Night Out

The Quilters Night Out Quilt Guild meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 306 Conewango Avenue, Warren. Beginners and seasoned quilters are welcome to learn and share quilting techniques.
