‘All About the Feels’

The Heroes support group for parents of children with all disabilities is teaming up with All About the Feels — a sensory processing support group — at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, in the Jefferson Room at Jefferson DeFrees Family Center.

Speaker is Anna Wright, OTR/L, M.Ed., who will give a brief summary of our sensory systems and how sensory processing difficulties impact us.

This is a kid-friendly meeting with activities for children.

LEGO Social Group

Come build with Legos and make new friends in a relaxed, supportive setting with options for a variety of building and play. The YMCA’s LEGO Social Group will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays at the Warren YMCA. It is open to any child or teenager (you do not have to be a YMCA member).

The group is for or a child or teen who enjoys Legos — with a focus on those who have immature or underdeveloped social skills for any reason and regardless of diagnosis or lack of diagnosis. The staff will provide a safe and supervised environment for children and teenagers to develop friendships over the shared interest of Legos.

It is expected that these friendships will ultimately transition outside of the group setting into the natural environment.

This group also allows parents to potentially meet other parents and develop connections with other members of the community with similar interests and struggles.

Studies have shown that children with social skills delays (specifically Autism Spectrum Disorders) have consistently made more gains with Lego focused groups.

Call Emily at (814) 688-8334 with any questions.

Business resources program

We’ve all heard Einstein’s famously proclaimed definition of insanity: Continuing to do the same thing over and over and then expecting different results. Yet we continue to hear… “but that’s the way we’ve always done it,” and people and processes continue on with old habits whether it’s cost-effective and efficient or not.

Dealing with change can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. There are resources available that can help you in many aspects of your business, whether they are changes you choose to make or changes that your customers or the industry demands.

A special program planned for companies in the Warren County region will focus on resources available to help strengthen their businesses. The program will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Conewango Club, 201 Market St, Warren. There is no cost for the program or lunch, but RSVP is required by Jan. 14 as lunch is provided.

Sponsored by Northwest Industrial Resource Center (NWIRC), Steel Valley Authority and the Strategic Early Warning Network (SEWN), and Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry (WCCBI).

Summer Music School elections

The Warren County Summer Music School will hold its annual election of officers at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at First Lutheran Church, 109 W. Third Ave., Warren.
