Warren Garden Club meets in September

President Patricia Christy welcomed members to the Warren Garden Club’s annual picnic, September 20, at the Crescent Park Pavilion along the Allegheny River.

A picnic lunch of chicken croissants, salads and cookies was served by Catering Plus. The monthly garden Club meeting followed lunch.

The speaker for the day was Garden Club’s own Josie Gerardi. Josie is a Penn State Extension Master Gardener and Chairperson of Warren’s Street Landscape Committee. Her topic for the meeting was Warren’s Urban Forest. Ms Gerardi shared plans for a refurbished Crescent Park Arboretum, The walkway will be extended to the cancer center and the healing garden.

She also provided the club with information on the number and location of Warren’s lovely trees. Warren Garden Club sponsored a tree near the river walk and bird blooming platform which was dedicated Arbor Day 2018 in celebration of 30 years of Warren as a Tree City USA.

For over 30 years, Warren Garden Club as purchased and sponsored the annual Arbor Day celebration in April.

A Warren Garden Club project for October will be spring bulb planting at Warren General Hospital.

Hostess chairman was Rebecca Ryan and hostess committee members were Louise Dyer, Margaret Sleeman and Kristine Whitaker. All were thanked for the hydrangea bouquet centerpieces, the antique linen tablecloths and for arranging for the caterer.

Members welcomed new member Alene Wolf.

Warren Garden Club’s next regular meeting will be 1 p.m. October 18 at St. Joseph Education Center. The presentation will be Afternoon Tea in the Garden. As always, members are encouraged to bring a guest.
